Peru produces 2,588,775 kg of Silver till Sep-2012

LIMA(BullionStreet): Silver production in Peru, world's second largest producer, continued to recover from last year's slump as output in the first nine months of this year hit 2,588,775 kg.
According to Ministry of Energy and Mines, this was an increase of 2.55 percent from last year's figure of 2,524,488 kg. In September alone production rose by 3.65 percent to 292,677 kg.
The ministry attributed the increase in production of the white metal to improvement at Minera Argentum, Cerro Manager and Compania Antamina.
Peru's silver production fell 6.22% in 2011,from 3,640,465 kilograms (117,043,667 troy ounces) in 2010 to 3,414,010 kilograms (109,762,970 ounces) in 2011.
Peru's gold production in the first nine months this year marginally rose by 0.17 percent to 124,273,608 grams from last year's 124,068,705 grams.
Gold production for September 2012 was reported at 12,822,724 grams (412,260 troy ounces), down 9.12% from the 14,108,776 grams (453,607 ounces) reported in September 2011.
Gold production for September of this year declined at Minera Laytaruma and Minera La Zanja.

Sudan-Saudi to start Red Sea Gold exploration in 2014

KHARTOUM(BullionStreet): After nearly four decades into talks, Sudan and Saudi Arabia finally agreed to resume Red Sea gold exploration in 2014.
According to Sudan's Mines ministry, gold deposits lie under 2000 meters below sea level contained more than 150 to 160 tonnes of gold,3750 tons of silver and more than 1 million tonnes of copper.
Initial output of 3 to 4 tonnes of gold a year was possible from the deposit, situated some 115 kilometers west of Saudi port city of Jeddah.
Manafa International Trade Company of Saudi Arabia and its joint venture partner Diamond Fields International Ltd of Canada received a license in 2010 to explore the area.
Sudan is trying to boost exports of gold and other non-petroleum products after the separation of South Sudan last year left Khartoum without three-quarters of its crude production.
The ministry also said the country expects to produce around 50 tonnes of gold this year, earning $2.5 billion.
Analysts said Sudan is desperately seeking to offset the loss of most oil reserves when South Sudan became independent last year.
Output of 50 tonnes could potentially make it Africa's third largest gold miner behind South Africa and Ghana, and push it into the top 15 producers globally.
In 2011, Sudan earned around $1.5 billion from the export of 33.7 tonnes.
Sudan's gold output is small compared with players such as South Africa as Western firms have long neglected the country due to US sanctions and deposits tend to be in remote places.

Smooth sailing ahead for Gold,Silver

By Prithviraj Kothari
Gold and Silver are likely to rise. Main reasons sited for this are the positive data from China, The Fed meeting to be held in December and the US Fiscal Cliff.

A report showed China's manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index rose to a 13-month high of 50.4 in November, while euro zone data showed manufacturing activity slowed less than expected in November.
A good manufacturing data, means that there will be increased in demand for gold from China which has already overtaken India as the world’s largest gold consumer this year.
On the other hand, the meeting of the Federal Open Market committee in Dec is expected to bring about further monetary easing policies. This may sustain gold prices. Currently for the Fed, the two main topics in the agenda are ‘Operation Twist’ and ‘QE3’.
Operation Twist involves the extension of the average maturity of the Fed’s securities portfolio through the simultaneous sale of short-term Treasuries and the purchase of longer-term ones.
Quantitative Easing 3, better known as QE3 is the outright monthly purchase of $40 billion a month in agency mortgage-backed securities. Now the FOMC may shift to another large scale asset purchase program as the FED cannot continue ‘Operation Twist’ since holdings of short term Treasuries have been exhausted Recently when the Fed announced the launch of QE3, gold prices shot up.
The same is expected to happen with gold if any such announcement by the Fed of another round of quantitative easing is made, Another important factor for gold would be the fiscal cliff. If there is a good resolution on the fiscal cliff then gold prices might go down.
However, Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke on Wednesday repeated a warning that failing to avert a move towards the cliff could lead to recession, and said worries over how budget negotiations will be resolved were already damaging growth.
The US drifting into a fiscal cliff similar to Europe would prove to be a good support for gold and of all goes well then gold might cross the 1770 mark too.

Sudan to earn $2.5bn this year producing 50 t of gold

Sudan expects to produce around 50 tonnes of gold this year, earning $2.5 billion, its mining minister said, as the country seeks to offset the loss of most oil reserves when South Sudan became independent last year.
Sudan is boosting production of gold and other minerals to gain new sources of state income and of foreign currency needed to fund imports. Output of 50 tonnes could potentially make it Africa’s third largest gold miner behind South Africa and Ghana, and push it into the top 15 producers globally.
Mining Minister Kamal Abdellatif also said production at a joint project with Saudi Arabia to tap gold, silver and copper reserves in the Red Sea between the two countries would probably start in 2014.
Inside Sudan, the government has already licensed more than 85 companies to explore for gold in more than 120 locations, Abdellatif told an Arab mining conference in Khartoum on Tuesday.
Seven firms had reached the production stage so far and the number would double by the end of the year, he added.
"Till yesterday we reached 41 tonnes of gold," Abdellatif told reporters on the conference sidelines. He said that in 2013, gold production would be similar to this year's projected level of around 50 tonnes.
In 2011, Sudan earned around $1.5 billion from the export of 33.7 tonnes.
Oil used to be the main source for the budget, bringing in around $5 billion a year, until South Sudan gained independence in July 2011, taking with it three quarters of oil production although Khartoum still controls the export routes to the coast.
Unlike oil, most of the known gold reserves at the time of the Arab African country's division were in the north and, while there are gold deposits in the south, there is little data.
Sudan’s gold output is small compared with players such as South Africa as Western firms have long neglected the country due to U.S. sanctions and deposits tend to be in remote places.
But with high gold prices more companies are coming. Egyptian tycoon Naguib Sawiris this year bought Canada’s La Mancha Resources, which together with the government runs Sudan’s biggest gold mine, Ariab Mining Co.
It is currently investing to tap deeper deposits after reserves closer to the surface have been exhausted, which explains why Sudan expects output only to stay flat next year.
Sudan also would produce around 50,000 tonnes of chrome this year, Abdellatif said.
VERY RICH
On the Red Sea project with Saudi Arabia, now in the exploration stage, he said initial output of 3 to 4 tonnes of gold a year was possible.
"It's very rich. The deposit is more than 150, 160 tonnes of gold and more than 1 million tonnes of copper," he said.
Saudi Arabian Petroleum and Mining Minister Ali al-Naimi, who attended the conference, confirmed the cooperation. "It has already started," he said, declining to give forecasts.
Saudi firm Manafa International is the main investor in the project, for which it has formed a joint venture with Canadian company Diamond Fields International. Special drill ships will be required to extract the minerals thought to be 2,000 metres below sea level.
The government has given conflicting data on Sudan’s gold production which is hard to verify as much comes from half a million artisan seekers, part of whose output is smuggled abroad. Analysts have dismissed forecasts of 70 tonnes output for 2011 made by the previous mining minister Abdelgabi Gailani Ahmed.
The central bank has tried to end smuggling of gold to major markets such as Dubai by buying up gold from local traders, even above market prices, according to industry sources.
